Dust off the sticks. Book the flights. Clear the calendar. Eighteen holes of competitive golf, one weekend of debauchery, and the kind of friendship you can't put a price on. You know the deal.

The Origin

The Deer Friends.
A Tradition Unlike Any Other.

It started with one man and one mildly delusional idea: Reiley OC.

Fresh out of St. Lawrence University, Reiley OC watched as his closest friends scattered across the country — Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Boston, Washington D.C., and Charlotte — and decided that adulthood wasn't going to be the thing that pulled the group apart.

So while living in Boston, raising rents on his tenants and ignoring maintenance requests, he put pen to paper and drafted the invitation to the first SLOC. Though it was riddled with spelling errors, grammatical crimes, and incomprehensible sentences, we responded.

What followed was one weekend of golf, an unreasonable amount of good times, and the birth of something none of us could have predicted: a tradition that has now outlasted jobs, apartments, relationships, torn Achilles, GAM knees, and herniated discs.

We are the Deer Friends.

Once a year, we gather to play golf with the intensity of men who have been training for months and the performance of men who absolutely have not. Over the years, we've descended upon Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Atlantic City, New York City, the Adirondacks, and beyond. We leave every destination slightly worse than we found it, but always leave each other better than we arrived.

What started as an excuse to get together has become something much bigger: a standing commitment to friendship, questionable decision-making, competitive mediocrity, and the belief that no amount of distance, responsibility, or aging joints should get in the way of a great weekend.

This is Deer Friends. And somehow, against all odds, we're still doing it.

SLOC Lore

Moments That Live Forever

Thirteen-plus years of stories. Here are the ones nobody will ever let you forget.

The Hole in One

At the Rhode Island SLOC, Billy K. stepped up and did what none of us could. A hole in one. We were there. We witnessed it.

🏆

The Championship Putt

Dixon M. stared down a winding, intimidating 12-foot putt and drained it to seal the championship for his team. Nobody breathed.

🏃

The Morning Mile

Chris L. vs. Dixon W. A foot race. The morning after a night of questionable decisions. Chris L. wiped the floor with Dixon W., who could barely finish. The stuff of legend.

🤼

The Wrestling Match

One year after getting embarrassed in the foot race, Dixon W. was somehow unreasonably confident heading into his next competition. He challenged Reiley OC to a wrestling match. Reiley wiped the floor with him. Three rounds. Nothing. Easy KO. Dixon W. remains winless.

Cooperstown Boat Day

After a long morning shooting doubles and triples at Leatherstocking, we headed to the lake to relieve some stress. The skies were blue. The water was clear. And the eyes were extraordinarily brown.

🎯

The Britt Tracker

Britt W. has vowed to break a 92. He has not. Each attempt costs him his dignity and his cash. We watch. We wait. We will keep watching.

Year Score Target Result
2022 109 92 ❌ +17
2023 110+ 92 ❌ Getting worse
2024 109 92 ❌ +17
2026 ??? 92 ⏳ TBD

Current streak: 3 years. Closest attempt: 109. The dream lives on. Barely.

The Championship

One Day.

SLOC 2026 Swag

New logo. New gear. Every single year. This year's drop — inspired by Skaneateles Lake.

Logo Inspiration

The Judge Ben Wiles

The SLOC 2026 logo draws its inspiration from the iconic Judge Ben Wiles, the historic passenger boat that has cruised the waters of Skaneateles Lake for generations and has become one of the lake's most recognizable landmarks. Just as the Judge Ben brings people together on the lake, The SLOC brings together lifelong friends each year to celebrate tradition, and unforgettable weekends.
